Jodee James, a top Celtic artist in MP3 sales, brings a new energy to the music of Wales and the other Celtic lands. Singing ancient tales and ageless themes of love, loyalty, longing and mystery, with a voice that is touching and intimate, Jodee conjures the very essence of tradition, whether of this century or many centuries before us. Nobles, shepherds, lovers and dreamers, birds as messengers and inspiring heroes all come to life in Jodee’s music. |

With a never
ending passion for history since childhood,
Jodee seeks to
communicate to others the way experiences and places cut through her.
Jodee says: "It was my father who suggested I
sing Welsh folk songs and that held for me a key. It
unlocked something inside me. I was able to combine
my love of times past, with the mystery of lore,
tradition and emotion. In reaching through from this
side of the sea, I see my family's ancestral land from a different
place, from a different perspective, yet with no less pride or emotion.
I believe many Americans can relate to this. And while the
scenery outside my window may
differ from that of my family's
windows a century before, the landscape of the heart keeps many
things alive.
I collect the words of a culture from pages
I have read, but I’ve absorbed words of home carried in
my grandparent’s voices -
this
is what I hope to
express in my singing." Jodee tours solo (guitar and vocals) and with her band, whose instrumentation includes fiddle and percussion. She has performed at concert venues, festivals, colleges and coffeehouses from Maine to Florida, including Longwood Gardens (PA), NJ Folk Festival; University of Pittsburgh; W.A. Singleton Center for the Arts (VA); Walt Whitman Center of the Arts (NJ); Godfrey Daniels (PA); Remsen Barn Fest and Gymanfa Ganu (NY); Irish Arts Center (NYC); Ames Unity Concerts (IA) and the Irish Heritage and Cultural Center (Milwaukee.) Jodee’s audience welcomes the release of her new CD “Two Shores”, inspired by grandparents who never forgot their homeland. On MP3.com, the world’s largest online music portal, Jodee secured her place as a top MP3 Celtic artist with thousands of downloads and numerous CD sales. Jodee and her band's high regard for tradition and crafted blend of originality, supports their mark in today’s Celtic music scene – a unique and beautiful musical journey. Jodee lives in Northwest New Jersey, with her husband Phil Evans formerly of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, who performs out with Jodee on occasion spinning a good tale (or ten.) She has a daughter Rebecca now teaching school in Florida and a stepdaughter Claire soon to be finishing her teacher studies in Swansea, Wales.
